About This Tree
A small-to-medium-sized evergreen conifer with a narrow, symmetrical, spire-like pyramidal crown. It features dense, flat needles and upright-standing cones that disintegrate on the branch.
Leaf Characteristics
Flat, needle-like leaves (0.5 to 1 inch long) that are blunt-tipped. They are shiny dark green above with two distinct silvery-white bands (stomata) underneath. Arranged spirally but often twisted to appear two-ranked.
Bark Characteristics
Smooth, thin, and greyish-brown when young, featuring numerous raised resin blisters containing aromatic balsam. With age, the bark becomes scaly and slightly furrowed.
